Every year on June 5th, World Environment Day is observed globally to encourage awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Established by the United Nations in 1972, it has become the largest platform for environmental outreach, engaging over 150 countries.
This year, World Environment Day 2025 is hosted by the Republic of Korea under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution”. The theme highlights the urgent need to address the global plastic crisis, calling on governments, businesses, and individuals to rethink their relationship with plastics. With plastic pollution harming wildlife, contaminating food chains, and overwhelming ecosystems, this year’s campaign urges everyone to take meaningful steps to reduce, reuse, recycle—and refuse single-use plastic.

Link Team Delivering Results
At Link, we’re proud to be part of the solution. Our BIG Polybag Purge initiative is mobilising teams across departments and geographies to tackle plastic packaging in every client project. The ambition? To eliminate unnecessary virgin plastic and shift to fully recyclable alternatives by 2030. And this focus is already delivering tangible results – for example, Link’s Global Nestle team has already removed 9 tonnes of plastic packaging so far this year.
We’re also leveraging our bespoke LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) calculator to measure environmental impact and guide smarter material decisions. Circular design principles are now fully embedded in the way we develop POSM and promotional merchandise—ensuring sustainability is built in from the start.

Emma Pomeroy, Link’s Chief Sustainability Officer, said, “Tackling plastic pollution isn’t about running a single campaign or initiative—it’s a core part of how we operate at Link. Since 2020 we have fundamentally shifted how we design, source and deliver our products and services to drive ESG improvement. Our teams work hard to innovate across every stage of the supply chain—reducing waste, identifying smarter alternatives and creating truly sustainable solutions.
Sustainability is no longer a box to tick. It’s embedded into the value we bring to our clients, our communities and the planet. We are committed to doing everything we can to be a force for a better future.”

As we mark this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and supporting our clients in making more sustainable choices. Together, we can turn the tide on plastic pollution and create lasting, positive change.
