Pedigree
Link was challenged to transform a classic annual production into a sustainable product – with results that thrilled both client and customers alike.
The challenge
The Pedigree Selfie Stix is a firm favourite with customers. Link originally supplied this fun, innovative product in a polypropylene material which required individual polybags to maintain best quality in transit. This individual polybagging was at odds with Mars’ sustainability targets.
In line with Mars’ sustainability aspirations, they challenged Link to create a more sustainable version with significantly reduced carbon impact but minimal cost and quality impact.
The results
Link team set about the challenge to transition this hero product to a new sustainable version, moving away from using plastic materials to a more environmentally friendly version without any loss of consumer impact.
Link re-engineered the Pedigree Selfie Stix in 100% recyclable corrugated card with a neat, new integrated sleeve – removing the need for a polybag – cutting costs by around a half.
Now 80% lighter, this new version of Selfie Stix was cheaper to ship into market, with 2 million pieces deployed across Europe. The new design revolutionised this annual campaign, delivering a significant 50% cost saving for Mars, and showing that an improved product could be made with 80% fewer CO2 emissions.
“Our partnership with Link adds significant value to our marketing activities and supports our Next Generation Supplier Programme”
